Challenge

Our client needed to recruit an outstanding executive to serve on its start-up business in Asia, with its large amount of investment in advance. This was a new industry sector for us to search worldwide. The primary challenge lay in the nature of the role for the opening. Meanwhile, the number of potential candidates, especially in Asia, was small.

Our client had entered into an unrivalled contract in Europe, which has earned it more than 2 billion Euro, based on a negotiation team of merely 6 members. For the market in Asia region is much larger than in Europe, they were determined to occupy the market in Asia.

Candidates had to have a pretty strong global sense of market trends, backed by a comprehensive knowledge of related industry, products, and services. Our client needed a leader with passions and energy into the virgin land.

Action

Before the commencement of search, we conducted a research assignment, mapping the world of training societies, foundations and firms. Echelon won the search as a result of this in-depth research and analysis, putting us in tune with our client's requirements and the type of the leader they required.

Although the talent pool was comparatively small, we finally approached a list of candidates who were qualified. As the automotive training services was in naive perioud in Asia, almost all of the players were rapidly developing, providing splendid platforms for employees, which led to the embarrassment that candidates were low-motivated.

One of our responsibilities is to convince candidates with objective, judged, and accurate information. It's also the case here. As a result of our detailed preparation, we were able to present the client with a short list of candidates from some of their direct competitors, each with the stature, presence and skills necessary to take on the role.

Results
The placed candidate, viewed as an ideal executive well capable of guiding the business team on its mission, was a gentleman who had been head of the other global leader for the past 7 years. During his tenure, this team in Asia contributed much more than in Europe had done.
